Biased Media?
While looking through the Room for Debate articles, I came across an interesting issue titled Why Has Trust in the News Media Declined? I have been thinking about this problem because of recent posts on Instagram displaying the bias of the news media. According to Catherine R. Squires, the media broadcasts what they think is more important and what will give them more views. Instead of listening to the viewers, the news media does what will benefit themselves. Squires points out that media sometimes show biases towards a gender or race. According to Timothy P. Carney, most of the media leans left and favors the Democrat party when they are supposed to be neutral. They criticize Republican candidates when they do the smallest thing wrong, but when a Democratic candidate does something wrong they try to blame it on something else. I am neutral on this issue. What do you think? Do you think the news media is biased towards a gender, race, or political view? Is the news media listening to the viewers or is it trying to make profit?

I do believe the media is biased, but I think it listens to the viewer only if it makes profit. It may sound contradicting to what you are asking, but hear me out. The media would broadcast something if it has large views of it. I know that some TV rates can go up or down because they did something different, and after a while one can notice its stable when they keep things constant. The viewing rate help let them know what people like, and continue it because it results in more money from more views.
