AF: Fletcher Thanks You

I want to send a thank you message to the people who go about their business, and do their work, and do not offer a long story about why they haven't started blogging until now.

Thank you to the people who are writing real posts, and not filling the blog with nonsense.

This work that I do with AP kids -- I've been at it for years.  I just saw a bunch of students from the classes of 2003-2007 at a memorial for another student from the class of 2005 -- so yeah, it can all be gone in an instant -- and they remember the work that we did.  They come up to me and say, I still write, I still have my journal that I kept in your class.  There are kids all over the country who are out there living their lives, doing big things, getting great educations at good schools -- Cal State Long Beach, UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, Cal State Fullerton, UCI, ASU, Biola, ad infinitum -- everywhere you want to go.

The work of redirecting your energy and intelligence away from the trivial and toward deep literacy is extremely time consuming.  It takes energy and attention, and just plain hard work.

So those of you who insist on wasting my time with lame 10th grade baloney -- stop it.  Just stop it.

And thanks to the great silent majority who are trying their best to fulfill the requirements of this assignment without creating unnecessary drama.
