Brainwash

Reading Amusing Ourselves to Death, Postman implied technology is constantly used and is slowly brainwashing our brilliant minds. Which had me think as humans we depend a lot on technology more than we depend on our own prior knowledge. As we use technology such as television we become more brainwash and train to be glue to our devices and forget about the world around us. I know that I am victim of technology, for I am always glued to my phone and depend on it more than I  normally should. When I finished Amusing Ourselves to Death a thought occurred to me,
technology is looked at as one of the most important things in our lives that just keeps getting more advance with each generation. Technology is what I am using right now to type my thoughts, we use technology so much without ever maybe considering the possibility that all this technology in the world actually is brainwashing us or making us efficient for the future to come?

  1. I believe that technology can brainwash many people, but I think it is all about how you perceive technology as a whole. If you use technology to help you through your daily life then I don't see any brainwashing factors in that. But if you must rely on technology for everything and become dependent on it, then you may succumb to the brainwashing effects of technology. You are writing your thoughts on a computer right now, but if that computer broke down, you wouldn't go into distress because you can go write your thoughts down on paper. But if your phone broke down. maybe you would begin to feel lost or distressed because you are so "glued to your phone." It all depends on how you use your technology and the way you see technology as a whole.

  2. I just had to comment on this a little because above Steven said, "You are writing your thoughts on a computer right now, but if that computer broke down, you wouldn't go into distress." In any other case of simply needing to get some thoughts out paper could work as well but in this case I believe people would go into distress because this is for a summer assignment and the deadline is very close.
On a more serious note, no matter how much people may have technology brainwashing them, it's not going away anytime soon. There are more and more of us who switch to using more technology everyday to lessen the use of resources such as paper. People just have to be smart about how much they let all the technology in I suppose.
