I recently finished the final chapter of Where Good Ideas Come From, which talked about the history of innovation from the past five hundred years - more specifically, what motivates people to innovate. Johnson revealed that early innovation (beginning around the 1600s) was stimulated by the genuine interest of pioneering new ideas. However, by the nineteenth century innovators had a change of motivation. More people began to innovate for the purpose of money instead of to gain knowledge.
Yes, I get that all humans need to make a living but I don’t think people should pursue something as serious as their careers just for the money. I think many of us can agree that many people in today’s society pursue careers in the medical field or any other high-paying career just because they make six figures a year. But is it really worth it pursuing a career that you don’t enjoy or are not passionate about? It would be a nice change if money wasn’t glorified the way it is today and material things weren’t so significant.
I agree with your statement about people pursuing careers for the money. It's not worth it to pursue a career that you are not passionate about. Think about how many years you will be doing something you are not passionate about. To wake up everyday dreading going to work because you hate what you do. This can cause an emotional toll on someone and can discourage them from getting out of bed and having to go to work. Do something you are passionate aboutt, so work does not feel like work.
ReplyDeleteThat is very true Abagail, do something you love and you never have to work another day in your life. Doing something that you are not passionate about isn't really worth the money. This will easily cause emotional distress which can end in feeling like a waste and can lead to depression. If you love music, just go for your goal and don't care for how much money you get in the end. The money will add up in the end, so as long as you're happy, then you will keep working. This will allow you to earn more and not go into a depression. It is really sad how most people now work solely for the money, not because they love to do it.
ReplyDeleteLike you and countless others have said, "Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." My problem is I love not working.
DeleteIt is often difficult for people to go for their dream job or what they are passionate about because money holds them back. There are only a certain amount of jobs that pay at a really good price. While there are still jobs out there that don't pay as well. Not only is money the problem, but also the fact that finding your job can be difficult. When I say that finding your job can be difficult I mean that as a nurse or medical field you can find your job almost anywhere you go so it is easy to relocate any time you have to. Unlike a smaller job it may be more difficult to find. I agree with your statement money holds back a lot of people and prevents them for going for what they are passionate about.
