Trump's Military Deferment

As I entered the Room for Debate website, the first article, “Should We Care if Our Politicians Avoided the Draft?” spontaneously caught my eye. I was intrigued by this article because it addressed the past military decisions that one of our presidential candidates has made. As our next election nears, the media is currently bombarding us with information about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The article revealed that Mr. Donald J. Trump, had gotten out of the draft for the Vietnam War due to a heel injury that only affected him as a child. Keep in mind that this occurred when Mr. Trump was twenty-two years old. In contrast, Mrs. Clinton’s husband, Bill Clinton, did the same thing when he was prompted to serve in the Vietnam War. In my opinion, I think our commander in chief should have served in the military if they were drafted, however, I believe experience in other political sectors, such as foreign policy and economics would be looked greater upon. What do you all think? Is military service a good judgment of one’s character or political ability? Should we trust a candidate that did not hold themselves to the same responsibilities as the rest of the American people?
