Bring The Classes Back
I will always be disappointed in the fact that we don't have a driver's education or home economics class at school. I think these classes are important and necessary; they're useful and beneficial to our lives. Sure, we can take a driver's education on our own time, but it would be so much more easier and convenient if the class was offered at school. The only class that is the closest to classes like driver's education and home economics is health, and even that class is only a semester. Schools deprive us of classes that provide useful information; most of the classes we take don't give us knowledge that we can use in our everyday lives. For example, home economics teaches us how to cook, which are skills that we can use everyday, but knowing how to balance chemical equations won't help our everyday lives. I think schools need to realize the importance of teaching subjects that students can benefit from. What do think about this? Do you agree or disagree?

Yes! Classes that actually make sense. These classes teach us the important things that we at least know is not useless. When am I ever going to use trigonometry? I rather be in classes that with actually benefit my life. Drivers ed is also a big deal because this class took me forever! I was too busy with other classes at school that I did not have the time or energy to complete my drivers ed. Luckily, I wanted my permit enough to actually finish the class. This proves that if I really wanted to learn something I would make time for it. I find interest in learning things that actually makes sense to learn.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that we do not have classes like driver's education or home economics really shows how school does not prepare us for the real world. We are so focused on memorizing facts and passing tests that we really aren't ready for what the world has to offer. I agree with everything you said Jasmine, we need to put more of an emphasis on classes that we can benefit from. If we have more classes like home economics then we can be more prepared for life after school is over.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Classes like this prepare you for adulthood. It's practical for being independent, and isn't that what school's are supposed to do? Prepare you for the future? However, classes like home economics might be a waste of funds because most students have to fill their schedule with other classes to obtain a higher GPA or to fulfill their A through G requirements. Schools would rather put their funds towards technology than home economics classes. Although I do think establishing this as a curriculum earlier on would be extremely helpful in preparing students for adulthood.
