Success

Many people have different opinions about what they believe education is.  The world has most people believing that being educated means excelling in mathematics and English.  Although these subjects are important to know, it doesn’t make someone stupid or unambitious if they don’t pursue or excel in these subjects.  I think it’s important for schools and teachers to start supporting and inspiring their students to follow their real goals and desires.  People constantly feel pressured into pushing their passions aside in order to achieve society’s idea of success.

  1. I agree, though we learn from our academic studies there is more to education than just “book smarts”. Having common sense, or “street smarts”, is just as important. We strive to achieve higher academic successes than those of our relatives, yet do not judge their wisdom based on their highest level of education completed. People learn from experiences, trial, error, and all forms of education should be equally praised.

  2. I completely agree with every aspect of your argument. I believe that it is quite important for educators to motivate their students, and encourage them to follow their goals. Education is not as important as we make it seem, because someone is educated does not necessarily mean that they are creative and vice versa.

  3. I wholeheartedly agree with you Halla. So many of us have lost focus on the true meaning of learning. School is supposed to teach us to explore our hobbies and to learn new things but with the amount of pressure and schoolwork that is piled upon us, we do put our passions aside. We lose focus on what we love to do. This is a big issue because if we don't try new things and express ourselves in a way that makes us happy, what is the point of education if you don't have passion or drive. A moving force to push us to express ourselves in creative activities such as art, dance, and literature. Whatever your passion might be, I believe that if we do what we love who cares what society thinks of us. Society's ideas of success only puts pressure on us students and contributes to the many flaws that lie in our education system.
