Artificial Intelligence Dangerous or Safe?
I began to read the news articles and I just finished the discussion on the new Alphago project by google and how it is able to complete a flawless run through of a game after various trials and errors. I began to think and realized that if this were implemented today this could cause many catastrophic events if the AI were to be used in jobs such as construction, power plants, etc. The trial and error setup it has could cause major damage and even cause death . This could also be taking away thousands of jobs that involve manual labor such as construction, machine operators, even doctors if the AI were to have a more precise and accurate knowledge of the human body. The AI system still has a long way to go if it is going to be used in the daily life of people around the world.

I think the use of artificial intelligence is safe - that is of course, if humans use it in moderation. Before reading this post, I came across a TED Talk that discussed the dangers of artificial intelligence and how it has the potential to take over humans. One of the things mentioned in the TED Talk that scared me the most was that scientists predict by 2050 machines will be capable of the same intelligence level as humans. Here is the link if anyone is interested!

Artificial intelligence maybe safe, but I think Brandon does make a good point about AI taking our jobs. What happens when all of the jobs that required manual labor before are replaced with technology? What will happen to us? What will the human race do when technology does all the work? Now, this maybe a little dark but I think that an AI's main processors in the future would be logic, and it would be illogical for humans to remain around if they have no purpose anymore. But who knows, the future is not set in stone and maybe AIs and humans will be able to coexist peacefully. Hopefully.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure power plants and construction sites will not allow a single use of artificial intelligence until the error rate is very low because if the AI were to create a major problem, people who were affected by the error would be suing the company that put people’s lives at risk. For example if a nuclear reactor where to blow up due to the uranium cells not being cooled before the reactor was turned on. This would force civilians who lived near the power plant to move far away as possible creating a class action lawsuit against the power plant for the damage. However major companies would probably want AIs as the new workforce as they would be saving themselves hundreds and maybe millions of dollars a year from the same jobs taken by humans
ReplyDeleteAI as of now is of no potential threat to our society. We are still relying on these AI's to build different games and other innovations and even use them to our advantage when we do not want to do our own work. Considering our advancements in technology and AI, I wouldn't be surprised if in fact that we will have AI ruling a portion of our world. I could even imagine that if we do not know how to properly control our use of these AI systems that we build inside of robots or other machinery, we will be destroyed by our own creations. So is AI dangerous or safe? The answer is both. It will help us, and it will destroy us.
