AF: Sherry Turkle, "Connected but alone?"

  1. I really enjoyed watching Ms. Turkle's views on how technology is affecting us. I couldn't help but realize how her views are similar to Neil Postman's, in regards to how technology causes us to lose communication with each other to the point where we simply entertain one another's visual interest. Nonetheless, it sucks to say, but I am guilty when it comes to favoring texting over calling. However, that's only in terms of my use of technology; if I could I would much rather talk to a person face-to-face rather than through a phone or computer. Aside from that, it is scary to know that the more technology advances the more we become numb or oblivious (if we haven't already) to the toll technology can have on us. To think, people would rather prefer the company of a robot, who has no experience of human life, rather a humans. If that doesn't project a serious issue within the human population, concerning interaction and communication, I don't know what will.
