Brave New Hell
Brave New World is a really strange dystopian future compared to most books. There is the caste system, which include the Alphas, Betas, Gammas, Deltas and Epsilons. From these, Alphas were the highest in the caste and were the smartest. Their society was significantly more advanced compared to what we think of and the people assume they live in happiness. The people were raised in hatchery centers and were genetically altered to fit in one of the 5 classes. The society became very patriarchal with the fact that women were treated as sex objects. There seems to be no pain and hate in this world that Huxley had created. The people do not see a problem in their society because they do not thing and they do not feel for others. It's sad to see this and even more so by the fact that when people are born, it is almost as if though their entire life has been written down on a paper and that is what they must do. There is no freedom in this type of world and in my opinion, I think Huxley is trying to warn us that we have to learn how to control technology before it is too late to save ourselves.

I agree that freedom doesn't exist in that type of world. Though the people in this society claim that they are happy they really are not. Therefore, freedom to them is just a word that describes their life not their way of living life. I also believe Huxley was trying to warn us about technology and it becoming dangerous. The internet, for example, was thought to be harmless, but now scams and hacking are a daily occurrence on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your point on how Huxley may be trying to warn us to not let technology completely overwhelm us on our lives and the way we go through life everyday. People in a Brave New World never knew that their freedom was taken away because of what society did; society gave the people what they wanted and took their freedom in exchange. I think Huxley is warning us the same thing about technology, maybe one day technology will do everything for us but the minute you let technology do everything, physically and mentally, for you is the minute your freedom will be taken away without you knowing. We would be exactly like the citizens in Brave New World; they get drugs, sex, and happiness and they don't have to worry about anything because they gave it up to society. It will be just like us having more free time, happiness, and no stress if we choose to allow technology to think and do everything for us. I know it sounds crazy now but hey, it probably sounded crazy to the people who lived before the New World was established that their freedom would be taken away in a Brave New World.
ReplyDeleteThe society described in Brave New World is a strange one indeed. The people's idea of happiness is quite questionable, however, they do not know any better. They fear change and look down upon that in which they do not agree with. This is shown in the case when John was introduced and was rejected by society for being different. To think that one day our society may end up like this may sound ridiculous but when you think about it, something similar may very well happen.
