Enough with Pokemon Go !

This evening, I spent  the day showing family from Texas some sights here in Southern California. We went to Downtown Disney, and right away I notice these people on their phones! They were looking for Pokemon. They weren't even paying attention to all these amazing sights and cool shops which saddened me. Later, we went to the Santa Monica Pier and in such a smaller environment, it was crowded with people on their phones playing Pokemon Go. What angered me was that all these people are in an amazing and beautiful place but yet, they were all just on their phones. I saw couples ignoring each other, people blocking off traffic (this was very dangerous, as they held up everyone on the pier just to catch a Pokemon).

I don't see anything wrong with this app by all means go ahead and play it (I play it on occasion), but don't be those people who are out with family and friends and just ignoring them to be on this app. Just as Postman said, technology is taking over our lives. So what are the opinions on this app and how it has taken over social lives?

  1. I do agree with the fact that technology does take over people's lives. Especially the app Pokemon Go. Even though it's been said that it actually is meant to bring people to be social and more active I don't think that's really the case if it distracts them from seeing the world around them. Yes Pokemon Go may be again all, but I wouldn't recommend using it when with friends and family or when at a very nice place meant to be experienced with your eyes and mind.

  2. I feel your pain. It's awful to know that there are those of us that are unable to put technology down for only a second. How bad would it be to miss one text message that you can read later, when you're missing a life memory that can possibly be gone forever. I mean unless you were lucky enough to have that one snapchater in the family around to record it as you weren't looking. Then go ahead, ignore them (sarcastically speaking).

  3. I do agree that technology is taking over many lives and not just the current generation. Our parent's generation is also becoming addicted to technology. Like you said, not only does Pokemon Go taken over our lives, but the previous generation has also been playing that game just as much as we are. For example, my uncle is constantly playing this game and when he's driving, my younger cousin is the one playing for him. He would constantly ask her if she has caught any pokemon or has collected items at pokestops.

  4. I get where you are coming from Alyssa, but I do not think it is taking over people's lives. People just enjoy the new style of gaming which requires traveling to new places in the world. The factor that seems to upset others is the game's popularity. If there weren't as many people playing the game, I believe people wouldn't really mind them.

    1. I see what you mean about its popularity, but does everyone need to be playing it constantly? I am no one to judge I mean go ahead and do what you please but it is quite aggravating when one is trying to enjoy a night out with family and being ignored when they are leaving to go find some Pokemon or walking and being bumped by people who are too busy looking on their phones.

  5. I agree with Alyssa in that this game is indeed taking over people's lives. Have you've been to Santa Monica lately? It is outrageous because literally every single person is on their phone. They pay no attention to the rides or even the sea, just in Pokemon. Alyssa I too was bumped, but only seven times. It's getting annoying and I really hope our future innovations don't come to everyone having their faces glued on a small phone screen.

  6. I agree that technology not only Pokemon is taking over our lives, and is becoming very dangerous. People are putting their locator signals on which is putting them in danger like what happened at Mayfair park this summer. Someone was attacked because they had their locator signal on for Pokemon and someone found him and attempted to rob him.

  8. In a darker aspect, I believe the app "Pokemon Go" is more of a danger to the users and those around them, than it is fun. Sure, you catch a few bulbasaurs and get to evolve him, but you almost got killed trespassing someone's property. Since the game came out, there have been multiple accidents that could have been avoided if the users of the game had paid a little less attention to their phones and more in the real world.

  9. I think a lot of people are failing to notice that people playing video games all day is not a new thing. Chances are, a lot of these people out catching pokemon would be in their houses playing something else if Pokemon Go wasn't made. In my opinion, people outside playing Pokemon Go, especially with friends, is better for them (as long as they are careful and aware) than sitting on a couch or in a desk chair playing some other game all day. It makes no difference to me personally, and I don't care that much how strangers spend their time, just as long as they don't hurt anyone else.

  11. Maybe it is not technology taking our lives but what if people do not want to live the world to live in. They want an escape from their everyday lives. It is almost like a drug, people use it to forget their problems and it makes them feel good. The addiction is there and everyone is giving into it. So the way to fix it is to first admit there is a problem but it seems like the public will not do that.

  12. I agree with you Alyssa, this new popular game, Pokemon Go, has taken over people's lives but is the game all that bad? pokemon can be dangerous but it can also be a fun way to get some exercise and socializing during the day, it all depends on how people play. The people that play pokemon are the ones that decide whether or not to look at the cool shops and amazing sights in Downtown Disney. So yes, technology is taking over our lives because we are giving it the power to.

  13. Honestly, Pokemon Go has made me a more social person. It sounds crazy, but I find myself talking to people when I'm outside! I went to Costco once and talked to at least six different people, telling them where to catch a certain Pokemon (there were a lot of Pikachus in the front) and talking about what our highest CP Pokemon were! I believe it's up to the player to be aware of their surroundings and not cause problems for other people.

  14. The only reason Pokemon Go is getting all this attention right now in this kind of lime-light is because it is super popular right now, as we all know. When snapchat first came out, everyone was always out on their phones taking snapchats and not focusing on the stuff around them. I see people go to concerts and are just snapchatting the entire thing not even taking it in for themselves they are to wrapped up in making sure everyone else knows they are there at that concert. The act of people just walking around on their phones not paying attention is nothing new, and Pokemon Go didn't really make it a worse issue it just brought it back into the spotlight, as the last really popular app like this was snapchat, and that was released quite a while ago
