Modern Day Society

With starting with Where Good Ideas Come From, I realized how much of the inventions that are mentioned are modernized in our generation. Starting from the beginning, I liked how George West expanded on the idea of television. It all started with NBC airing the Annual Rose Parade on technicolored televisons to creating objects we use today such as cell phones, personal computers, the GPS, or just about anything that can be used with technology.
I also started to think about how the social media has modernized. The social media that all our parents probably started with was a MySpace page. Now our generation has Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Every social media that has first come out became more popular then the social media site that was created before. For example, when Facebook came out, I remember my older sister downloading it right away and disregarding her MySpace page completely.

As people, will we do this with new inventions along the way? Will we dump our Snapchat stories or Instagram feeds for the new and improved stuff?

  1. New ideas and inventions will keep surfacing as long as people are making changes and contributions to society. I believe as new ideas and inventions come along we will repeat the pattern and start focusing on the new things. In fact we already do. Every time the latest model of the iPhone or android comes out people trade in their "old" technology for "new" technology. Growing up I have used MySpace and Facebook, and now I use Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter because more people my age use it. I think it also has to do with keeping up with the trends and every one else around you.

  2. In answering your question, yes we will. Why wouldn't we discard old technology and apps for the new and improved? We are constantly moving forward in terms of technology as a society. Also, keeping up with current technology and apps allow for constant updates on information, which older technology and apps might not allow.

  3. As Ken already mentioned, we will continue to discard old technology. As a modern society, more specifically to the millennial and generation z, we are constantly asking for technology that will make our lives easier. Just look at our app store today: there are apps that cut down the time for getting a taxi, there are apps for ordering food right to your door, and there is even a app to tack women's menstrual cycle!

  4. As new technology rises we will end up discarding our older technology. For example, flip phones, people used to treasure those things, they were the big thing, but now we got rid of those and now we have smartphones that can have apps, touch screens, access to the internet, etc. With new technology the older technology seems more primitive and useless

  5. Honestly if new technology came out and I was interested in it, then perhaps I will discard the rather old technology. It is very much natural to want something that is new and much more convenient in its use.
