After reading the Room
for Debate article on internet addiction, I started to think of whether
people are truly using the internet for pleasure, for in fact many people are
addicted and cannot using the web. Technology has taken up a lot of people’s
precious time and I think we need to get out more and reduce our internet
usage. What do you all think? Should we reduce our internet usage for our well-being?
In contrast, technology is being used in all aspects of our
lives. It is inevitable to not use at least one technological apparatus during
the day. We are brought up using technology, for it makes our lives easier than
ever before. It is almost like our cultural norms are a product of technology.
For example, when people sit together as a group they are all often using their
smartphones. It is common that they will be on ‘social media’, but is it really
social if people are not engaging in thoughtful conversation. We are not
becoming so engaged with technology that it is becoming a part of our daily
lives, thus I believe that Internet is becoming addictive for the people of the
world.
