How would you live?

So I've been reading A Brave New World and it is a pretty weird book.  The way society functions in this book is way different from the way we do.  They live a carefree life in a world with no negative emotions.  Everyone lives happily and do as they please.  Even though our world isn't problem free and we do struggle with finding eternal happiness, I do prefer to live life the way we currently do.  Yes, it is difficult to find life long happiness and we could live like people do in the World State, but living the way we live now is more real.  People in A Brave New World experience artificial happiness and don't have the opportunity to experience what we do.  We are able to feel all kinds of emotions that everyone should experience and learn how handle.  These emotions are able to show us what we truly want, so that we are able to achieve our happiness.  Would you live a carefree life with artificial happiness or would you live life full of obstacles where you could achieve true happiness?

  1. I find that obstacles and negative emotions are a key factor on the journey we call life. Happiness may be the feeling that makes us feel good, but it is nothing without it's counterpart of sadness that makes the happiness feel ten times better than artificial happiness. Otherwise it's almost as if there's no life to live.

  2. I agree that living a life full of obstacles are better. I believe that people should achieve happiness by working for it. For example, if you worked hard to achieve your goals, to your fullest extent, you will be proud of your outcome and be genuinely more happier. Living in a society with no negative emotions seem pretty odd, seeming we come from a pretty messed up one where there are a lot of negative feelings going around, but living through the negatives also makes us a stronger person and makes us feel more grateful for the positive moments in our lives.

  3. If I had a choice,I would live life full of obstacles instead of a carefree life.Since I know it's these obstacles that made me to the person I am today. With out sadness I would not know the feeling of happiness since,it's a overwhelming emotion. We live in a society where we experience more negative than positive. It's for this reason we appreciate the positive moments more. And have sayings like,"every rainbow is made with a little rain."So it would be just abnormal to live in a carefree society.

  4. I would personally prefer a life full of obstacles because I see negative experiences as learning experiences. No matter what, you will most likely experience sadness so you have to learn to adapt to different situations and learn how to cope with sadness. It is these kinds of situations that make people wise, experienced, and emotionally strong, not the carefree lifestyle seen in Brave New World.

  5. There is a saying that I've always remembered and goes like this: to get to the rainbow, you need to fight through the storm. This storm is the everyday life obstacles that we face, but when we overcome them, we feel genuine happiness. I would rather follow this path, than live a carefree life with artificial happiness.
