Reforms in Police Recruiting
Police Officers have been at the center of controversy for awhile now because of the frequent overuse of force by some officers. A recent Room for Debate "How Can Police Do a Better Job of Recruiting Officers?" tries to tackle this issue to by focusing on reforming the police recruiting system. Some of the mentioned reformed include adding more diversity of races to the police force so there isn't a big race gap between the police force and the minority communities they serve. There is also attempts to add more women to the police force as studies show that female officers handle more situations with less use of force compared to male officers. One often overlooked part of police recruiting is the use of outsourcing the recruitment process. By leaving recruitment to the companies, the recruits are missing out on valuable experiences and knowledge that can only be learned by veteran officers. One that was brought up by a military veteran was to have a police version of sensitivity training so the police can be better prepared for random encounters and be better informed on the communities they serve. These are all reforms that I agree with and think should be implemented in the near future. What do you guys think of these potential changes? What else can police departments do to improve the recruiting process?

I totally agree. I honestly do believe that more women officers can make situations more relaxed. Less hostile situations are very important. Especially, since all the police brutality tat has been going for the past couple of years. I honestly think there need to make new training for police officers.
