Teaching Kids with Technology
As I was reviewing my Postman summaries, I re-read the topic of teaching children through television, and I completely agreed with the fact that television can't teach kids what actual people can. The programs have a flaw, in which the programs don't respond to the children's questions or statements. If a teacher taught a child, that child will learn how to respond and question the teacher, which leads to a better understanding of the concept. Although television might teach kids some topics, then those kids will always want to learn through entertainment. However, some programs have proven themselves to be successful, and taught young children education before they enter school. I've heard how a computer program named ABC Mouse .com has helped younger kids learn, before they enroll in school. Even though it's helping children learn, wouldn't those kids focus on fun education rather than reasonable education? Maybe those kids grow out of the fun learning phase, and the program is a true success. What are your thoughts on technology teaching children instead of teachers?

I do and do not disagree with you. I agree with you on the fact that education should not be based on technological mediums such as tablets and computers. This type of teaching would allow for no interaction between students and the teacher. I do, however, believe that technology should be used to SUPPLEMENT the learning experience in the classroom. In the modern era, it is now inevitable to be unfamiliar with technology and its components. Online learning can be interactive with visuals and can help students analyze math and science problems and other related phenomena.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, technology should have no business teaching our youth because it lacks the social aura that comes with a human being. Kids would develop with little to no social skills up their sleeve, leaving them lonely and hopeless in the real world.
I also agree and disagree with you because i feel that computers can't teach everything a human would teach, but i also feel some subjects a computer can teach better or equally as good as a human. Although a computer is not the same a as a physical teacher it still has the capability to teach children and people many things. I can remember plenty of time when i remembered that i learned something from a computer or even a tv this is why i feel very strongly about this subject.
ReplyDeleteI agree that television sometimes gives kids some perspective on education. I do think it kinda gives the perspective that kids want to ave fun with unicorns or dinosaur to learn. I think that it gives kids the prospective that school has to be like that. I remember looking at Dora and expecting the foxes and stuff. I honest think ABCmouse.com a great site.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that television has the potential to teach children things that is taught during school, but not everyone is able to understand things that are displayed on the television. Also, kids shouldn't be lured in to learn something because of the amusement of television. Then these children would just continue to depend on learning something that entertains them at the same time.
