The Trends of Fashion

After finishing up the summer assignment, I read a "Room for Debate" discussion about fashion. The title was "Who Owns Fashion", it interested me because it is time for back-to-school shopping! New clothes make me feel good about myself and is a passage of happiness.

Anyways, the article debates on whether original fashion designers deserve laws to protect their original, creative ideas. As I came in and out of stores, I noticed a lot of the same products in different stores. For example, there were light-distressed denim jeans at H&M, Forever 21, and Levis. The copying of clothing products is perfectly legal because the fashion industry doesn't have the luxury of copyright laws. However, the price points differ due to the varying quality of a product.

I am all for cheap alternative clothing mainly because I'm broke! These companies that release nearly identical products for a extremely affordable price are blessings in my life. What do you think about clothing companies mimicking original ideas? I honestly think it is just adds to the competitiveness of companies and is a key part of trends in fashion. As designs become sold everywhere, they become old news and more original clothing styles arise. It is all a big trend cycle. Do shop at stores that offer cheaper alternatives? And have you picked up new clothes yet for the new school year!?
