In
a recent "Room for Debate" question, people were asked whether or not
employers should be able to see their employee's jail record. One debater,
Dorsey Nunn, argued that employers should not be able to see their employee's
prison record because it decreases the chance of that employee receiving the
job. He adds that all people should have the have same opportunities, no matter
what race, background, or gender. He mentions the "Ban the Box"
movement which was supported by the Obama administration and how it has
impacted multiple states.
In
my opinion, I don't believe that people should be required to notify their
employers if they have a jail record because it doesn't seem fair for their opportunities
to manipulated by their past. I doesn't matter if someone has a prison record,
as long as they can professionally complete the roles of their job.
Additionally, by eliminating this requirement, it allows for people to get back
on their feet and stay clear from further crime.
