An interesting idea about Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is the fact that even though he is
considered an outsider to society, John possesses many freedoms people in
society do not have. While the new world has been brainwashed to think and feel
certain ways about things, John has the ability to think and feel for himself.
Unfortunately many of these freedoms make John feel lonely in a world of people
high on drugs to make them happy. I like the idea that Huxley allows John to
relate to the words of Shakespeare because I too feel reading things you can
relate to makes you feel more understood. John does a great job of not letting
society’s views control him even when his inability to understand could’ve influenced
him to not sway against society. If you were in John’s place would you let
society influence your beliefs? Would you have given up on trying to change people
genetically altered to behave and think certain ways?
