Amusing Oursleves to Death

As I come down to a final analysis of Amusing Ourselves to Death, I have nothing but good things to say about it. I found the book to be very different because it wasn't your typical charcter conflict book, it was just pure facts and suggestions. Throughout the novel, the claims Postman made were so relatable to today's modern life. Everything is evolving and people are changing with it as well. Campaigns aren't campaigns anymore, their just a competition to see who essentially looks better or appeals the most to the audience. Now, Television is the new learning system for young children, however, it doesn't teach them what school teaches them. Moreover, It doesn't teach them the morals and common sense knowledge that their parents are supposed to be providing to them. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this book an 8 1/5 and most definitely recommend this to other interested readers. It's just an amazing book that makes u see the world in a whole different light.

  1. I agree that this was a very interesting book. I didn't understand how a few people said they didn't like it or it was boring. One thing is for sure: this book was far from boring. Amusing Ourselves to Death is such an eye-opener because it made me se so many ways television shows manipulate the human mind to bring interest in watching it. Some things in the book I made me think 'Oh my gosh, that is so true!' For example, when Neil Postman states how even religious TV shows are made to be entertaining which is true. Overall I would recommend the book to those who love to watch TV and believe what it spouts out is legit.
