Parenting With Electronics

There was an interesting article on the Room for Debate website called "Bringing up Baby -- On the iPhone" which was about how the many media companies that produce apps and television programming geared towards toddlers and babies causes a disagreement with many. With the belief that babies should avoid excessive screen time, they question the effects of these virtual toddler toys. Some say parents are relying too much on technology to entertain their kid while they are busy.
1.      In my opinion, I believe babies and young children should really have limited use of technology. As stated in Palladino’s article, the structure of the brain proves how limiting technology is for a developing brain. Her argument is much stronger than Sen’s argument, who uses trial-and-error without understanding what the brain is doing. I chose this article because I desired intellectual insight on a very common case throughout America. What do you guys think? Were you brought up with electronics or without?

  1. I was brought up with electronics, but it was mostly due to seeing my older brother playing fun games rather than my parents using it to entertain me. I understand what you are saying though, parents shouldn't be leaving their child alone in front of an iPad for hours and should maybe find more productive ways to spend time with their children.
