Social Media Worthy?

After reading, Here Comes Everybody by Clay Shirky, I got a sense that people are using social media for the wrong reasons.  After reading Chapter 1, it really got me into the book. I understand how important it is to lose a phone.  But to end up arresting a 16-year-old girl is unnecessary.  I understand it is all about the principle, but to get to that extreme is very inapproprite. Things like credit cards and drivers licenses are things that should be addressed immediately.  People lose phones, laptops, tablets all the time.  You should go to the police to state you opinion. You can go to social media and address the situation without making a big deal. There are more important situations to be addressed.
