The Google Self-Driving car is a vehicle that does exactly
what it’s named. Although it does sound
like another invention that tends to one's laziness, I am convinced that it
will benefit the world. It would allow
disabled people to get around without the need for someone to drive them. Furthermore, the self-driving cars would be safer
than having a human drive, because most deaths from traffic accidents are the
cause of human error. With enough
testing, they could prevent car accidents and bring the road to those who can't
drive. On a quick side thought, I think
it's interesting to note that if these self-driving cars become the norm, then
transportation jobs will very likely be automated. Despite the fact that technology is integrating
itself more into our lives, it does benefit us with the self-driving car being just one example.
I do agree with you Jamie in the fact that the Google Self driving Car is a good yet bad innovation. The Google Car is an example of how our society considers innovations as revolutionary if they make our lives easier or lazier. I personally am kind of excited for the Google Car but also sort of scared because one malfunction can risk the lives of many. Like Steven Johnson talks about in chapter five Error, he says all innovations will eventually have some errors. I'm hoping the error happens soon before the car hits the streets.
ReplyDeleteI agree Jaime that the Google Self-Driving car is very essential in preventing car accidents, and giving transportation services to the disabled. Sure there could possibly be an increase in the unemployed population because of these self sufficient cars, however, that is what comes along with the progression of technology.

ReplyDeleteI agree on how it does seem like it will be beneficial since car accidents do happen on a daily bases and this should surely help minimize the casualties, but I do believe there still will be some accidents on the road since humans aren't perfect. I also like the idea of people with a handicap being able to roam around more freely.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the Google Self-Driving car is a good idea, because it will allow many people with disabilities to not have to rely on others to help them get around. Yet I also feel that there is no guarantee this will be a perfect car and stop all accidents, because a lot of cars now that can't even drive by themselves have recalls.
ReplyDeleteThe Google Self-Driving car would be a huge advancement in our world when it is complete and will be beneficial. Though the concern would be about what would happen to all the car companies? It will still be very difficult to transition to a self-driving car because other people will not be able to afford this self-driving car and could cause even more accidents than ever before. Even then it wouldn't exactly help with the bigger issue: what is beyond our planet, what is actually inside the earth, and what the ocean depths contain.
