On Room for Debate I read an article called, "Political Candidates Benefit When Grief Inspires Hope." The author states how the politicians use grief to get us to side with them. Us Americans pride ourselves on fairness and if somethings wrong we want to find a way to make it better. The victims who have lost family members get to share their stories, but is it for the right reason? A lot of the family members of the deceased just want to make sure this never happens again, and to get the recognition for the deceased that they deserved. Even though there are a lot who say they are using their grief so publicly that its not even for the right reasons.
I believe that in a sense yes everyone should know what happened to your loved ones, so it never happens again. However, when our parents vote do you want them to think, I remember that candidate had the saddest family on there sharing there story. Personally, me no I want to remember something you said not the family that lost someone dear to them. In the end their not running for president you are! The voices of grief are the most powerful and they do deserve to be heard, so in the end they are speaking for all the people who have lost someone for all the wrong reasons, which inspires hope. Do you think sharing peoples grief is right or wrong? Do you believe the candidates are getting all the votes for the wrong reasons?
I believe the only reason for candidates to tell their voters their personal losses or issues is when they say they will make changes to prevent it from happening again. For example, if a candidate said they lost someone from a mass shooting, it would help the voters understand why they want more gun control laws to be passed. But if they tell you they longer have parents to see them win, it should not be used as a way to have people vote for them whatsoever. Yes losing anyone dear to you is life changing, but if you are not doing anything to prevent it from happening to other people, you do not need to tell your voters just to get the popular vote. I believe everything a person in power says should have a reason to benefit the people, not to make them pity you.
