Too Much Violence in Movies?
While reading some articles on "Room For Debate", I encountered a few topics that I will blog about later. The topic I will be discussing today is the amount of violence in movies. Is it too much? Does it encourage younger viewers to try some of the stunts in these movies? Many parents are arguing that it does. However, others believe that violence in these movies is a representation of violence in the real world. As a child that used to play video games and watch movies with a lot of violence, I can say that I was never really encouraged to act in violent manners. Growing up watching movies like "Spiderman" never tempted me to jump off a building to try to swing with webs and fight crime. We shouldn't try to limit the amount of violence in these movies. First of all, they have trailers for this specific reason, to see if the movie would fall into your interest. As a parent, they should check and see if the movie will be appropriate if they are worried so much. Secondly, we shouldn't try to limit the creativity of the director because it will be a form of censorship. This reminded me of Brave New World because many things are censored in their society. If they start censoring movies, how long will it be before they start censoring the news? How long will it take for people to start reporting things that are not important? What do you think of this situation? Should people limit the violence in movies?

For one, there's so much violence in the world that it would be highly unlikely to censor everything from children. If these parents want to shield their kids from T.V. violence, they can limit what their child watches. I believe parents should just talk to their kids about violence, and tell them the consequences and meaninglessness that a fight with their peers would hold. It depends on how children are raised to view fighting and violence. Kids will watch an action-packed movie for amusement, not to use it as a life guide. As Arturo said, he didn't try to jump off buildings and fight criminals, because he saw Spiderman do it. When people watch movies, its just as a fun way to pass time. Parents shouldn't censor movies, due to their dislike of violence. The movie is just for amusement, and is harmless to children who just think of it as just a cool movie.
