As mentioned earlier, I went to the Broad Art Museum recently for the first time and I really enjoyed it. Some of the art however was quite interesting and disturbing to view on such a large scale canvas. Don't get me wrong, the majority of the pieces were wonderfully done and the amount of detail that went into them was fascinating but some were a bit disappointing. Even the simplest of art was still interesting to me as seen to the first picture to the right. It just boggles my mind that the simplest and weirdest of paintings can be sold for so much more and put on a higher pedestal than another painting that took an artist twice as long. As a fellow artist, it amazes me that half the artwork that is done in the Art Academy looks so much more appealing than the paintings found in the galleries. Although, I understand why the simplest art intrigues many art connoisseurs because that is how modern art is nowadays. The Mona Lisa could be overshadowed by a simple painting as seen by the second picture to the right and it just blows my mind. Some of the art really had me wondering, "why on earth is that in this museum?" Others had me thinking, "I really enjoy this because of the bright pigmentation!" Even though the weirdest and most disturbing paintings make it big, doesn't mean that they are terrible. It is the thought of creating the art itself that intrigues fellow art connoisseurs and just to think, "I wonder how he/she got that idea?" Creativity and imagination cannot be contained and I just think it is so fascinating to think how many famous art pieces were created by great artists. Art is perceived in the eye of the beholder, if you see something that you enjoy visually, the person next to you might have a different interpretation. I think this is a great concept in society today because no two people are the same because each and every one of us are different in some way. Society is based on individuality and uniqueness and I believe that having a different view on the world should be encouraged in schools and with children. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. Art is a captivating thing, it just depends on how you look at it.
