I came across an article that was debating on whether libraries are still important to society today. Books stores aren't very abundant in my opinion. Borders went out of business and there's a Barnes and Nobles every once in a blue moon since they're so spread apart. Plus, with technology on the rise, many people choose to simply buy an ebook instead of a traditional paperback novel.
As I read on through the debaters opinions, I particularly agreed with what one man had to say on the matter. Luis Herrera claimed that libraries symbolize "the freedom to live, the freedom to choose, and the freedom to share our ideas." I completely support what Herrera argues because I do believe that libraries are the hub for a lot of activity. They apply easy access to an infinite amount of knowledge and even implemented technology for those who aren't big on reading. Libraries are more essential than ever.
I personally love libraries. The idea of reading a book online never really appealed to me, and I find myself in favor of a physical copy. The library is good for students who need a place to quietly do homework or get research for a project. If there were no more around, I believe that problems would arise from the outcome.
