I'm about halfway through the book, and so far my favorite part about it is the soma concept. The fact that almost everyone, especially Lenina, depends on this drug is amusing. It's also interesting how the people of the society don't physically age, and seeing an old man with wrinkles is so strange to them that they have to take more soma to forget it. What were your reactions while reading Brave New World? Could you imagine yourself living in this type of society?

Not My Ideal Society
I've read science fiction genre books before. For example, The Giver was a sci-fi book that was about a utopian society. Although Brave New World is also a novel about a utopian society, I have never read anything like it before. It's sometimes a struggle to visualize the things that are happening because it's so bizarre. I mean, embryos in bottles? Forcing babies to not like a certain object by shocking them? Taking a drug daily to prevent you from feeling pain or negative emotions? It's the most interesting kind of society someone could create.

I had the same reaction to the unusual society. The thought of developing babies in jars submerged in liquid substances is very eerie. However, I find the advancements and innovations very interesting. One innovation that really interests me is the the process of making genetic clones called the Bokanovsky Process. The possibility of cloning in the future has been awaited and gives excitement to the future.
