I often watch a YouTube channel called JustKiddngNews. Their viewers send them news articles, and they proceed to "cover" them and give their opinions. The stories they go over can range from very serious issues to things that make you ask yourself, Why on earth is this news? (Sometimes they ask themselves that too). These stories prove Postman's point of how journalists cover a lot of "unnecessary" news. To help you further understand how crazy these stories are, I'll link five articles that JustKiddingNews has covered in the past:
Newly Weds are Mad After They Received a "Cheap" Wedding Gift
A Girl Convinced Her School to Let Her Go Home With a Note That SHE WROTE!
A Lady Almost Died of Blood Poisoning After She Got Glitter Stuck in Her Eye (Warning: Graphic Content)
This Man Was Fed Up With Life, So He Decided to be a Goat!
A Dog Made a HUGE Mess When His Owners Weren't Home
Like Postman says, news is just entertainment now, and I was indeed amused when hearing about these articles. What do you think about the stories listed above? Have any of you noticed anything in the news that seemed just a bit unnecessary(even thought it could be pretty amusing to hear about)?
(Disclaimer: If you decide to check out JustKiddingNews, take note that they use profane language in just about every video. If you're alright with that, have fun taking a look at their channel.)
This isn't news. Like you said, it's become all about entertainment these days. These types of sources shouldn't refer themselves as "news" because it just encourages people to view more things that do not matter. The only one from this list that is acceptable is the incident with the glitter.
ReplyDeleteI've also noticed that trending news on social media or online is mainly about entertainment. The titles of these "news" articles are also the problem in itself. Things like click bait are popular around the internet now, especially on youtube and online news article websites. The fact that "news" articles need to use click bait in order to get it's audience to simply view the article presents a problem. People should view the news to get information, not to gain entertainment. This plays into Postman's claim that ideas are supressed due to television because television caters to it's audience an appeal. The appeal in our case is entertainment.
